Ghana Orders Lockdown in Biggest Cities to Combat Virus

Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo announced a 14-day lockdown in the West African nation’s biggest cities from March 30 in a bid to slow the outbreak of the coronavirus.

Residents of the capital, Accra, and other major centers such as Kumasi and Tema will not be allowed to leave their homes unless it is for essential reasons such as purchases of medicines or food, Akufo-Addo said in a national televised address. Grocers and informal food markets, banks and pharmacies will be allowed to continue trading, he said.
