Georgia Looks to Extend Obamacare Subsidies to Alternative Plans

Georgia would let people buy federally subsidized health plans outside the HealthCare.gov marketplace under a proposal the governor announced Oct. 31. The move could open the door to plans that don’t cover pre-existing conditions, although the governor says his proposal won’t allow that.

The proposed change—which needs federal approval before Georgia can move forward—is part of a request Gov. Brian Kemp (R) plans to file with the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services by the end of the year, following a public comment period.
