Fresenius, DaVita Sue California Over Dialysis Steering Law

The U.S.'s largest kidney dialysis treatment providers are suing California in federal court over a new law that prohibits them from allegedly steering patients whose premiums are subsidized by a charitable organization to private insurers.

Fresenius Medical Care Orange County LLC, DaVita Inc., Fresenius Medical Care Holdings Inc., and U.S. Renal Care Inc. said in a complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California that AB 290 imposes burdensome and punitive regulations on kidney dialysis patients, providers, and a leading national charity that helps patients access life-saving health care.
