Formula Shortage, Covid Propel HHS National Defense Proposal

The Department of Health and Human Services proposed a rule Tuesday that would standardize how it sets priorities for national defense contracts over other health resources.

The proposed rule (RIN: 0908-AA00) sets up the process by which which the agency can place priority ratings on orders for health resources used for programs that the Departments of Energy, Homeland Security, and Defense think would be useful in promoting national defense.

The announcement follows an in interim final rule from 2015 that didn’t draw any comments from the public, the HHS said in its proposal.
