Former CFO Pays $100K to Settle Clinic Billing Claims

A former executive of a Florida orthopedic practice agreed to pay $100,000 to settle allegations of health-care billing violations, after the practice itself previously settled for $4.48 million, the Justice Department said.

Scott Quinn, the former chief financial and chief operating officer for Southeast Orthopedic Specialists in Jacksonville, Fla., allegedly knew the company was billing Medicare for medically unnecessary procedures, the Justice Department said in a Sept. 14 announcement.

The government alleged Quinn took part in or oversaw routine billing for medically unnecessary ultrasound-guided injections between 2013 and 2016, according to the settlement agreement, dated Sept. 13 and reached ...
