Jan. 5, 2024, 7:13 PM UTC

Two Florida residents were issued sentences for their involvement in a conspiracy to defraud Medicare by billing over $93 million for home health therapy services that were never rendered, the Justice Department said Friday.

Karel Felipe was sentenced to eight years and four months in prison, and Tamara Quicutis was sentenced to five years and 10 months in prison. They have also been ordered to forfeit the fraud proceeds, according to the DOJ.

They were convicted in October after a jury found them guilty of conspiring to commit health-care fraud and wire fraud and conspiring to commit money laundering, the department said.
