Florida Pharmacy Loses Registration Fight Against DEA

The Drug Enforcement Administration properly revoked the controlled substances registration of a Florida pharmacy that allegedly filled prescriptions for drugs like Dilaudid without determining if they were being prescribed for medical reasons, the Eleventh Circuit said.

Substantial evidence presented at a DEA hearing showed Pharmacy Doctors Enterprises Inc. and pharmacist Veronica Taran filled several prescriptions in violation of federal and state laws, including laws requiring them to investigate prescriptions that raised red flags, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit said Sept. 20.

The Eleventh Circuit denied the pharmacy’s petition to review the DEA’s decision.
