Florida Limits Opioid Prescribing, Requires Use of Database

Opioid prescriptions in Florida will be limited to a three-day supply in some cases and doctors and pharmacists will be required to use a state monitoring database under newly enacted legislation.

H.B. 21, which Gov. Rick Scott (R) signed into law March 19, aims to address the state’s part in a nationwide crisis of opioid abuse and overdoses by limiting the supply of painkillers and monitoring patients and doctors for signs of abuse, the governor said in announcing the bill signing.
