Filipino Nurses in New York Win Human Trafficking Suit

A recruiter and employment agency that promised Filipino nurses good jobs and high pay in the U.S., but threatened to penalize them if they left those jobs early, violated a federal law prohibiting human trafficking, the Eastern District of New York said.

Prompt Nursing Employment Agency LLC, Sentosa Nursing Recruitment Agency, and others violated the Trafficking Victims Protection Act by threatening to seriously harm the nurses if they didn’t continue working in nursing homes in which they’d been placed for at least three years, the court said.
