Second Union Mulls Legal Action Over Trump Shutdown Firings

A large federal government workers union representing staffers at the Department of Health and Human Services and elsewhere is weighing legal action following the Trump administration’s firing of employees during the shutdown, according to an email reviewed by Bloomberg Law.

In an email to members, the National Treasury Employees Union said it would file institutional grievances over federal agencies’ failure to bargain with the union before sending reduction-in-force notices during the government shutdown that started Oct. 1.
