Companies got an expanded pathway to labeling their products as containing “no artificial colors” under updated guidance the Food and Drug Administration sent to industry Thursday.
Agency officials informed manufacturers it will no longer enforce an FDA rule that blocked marketing foods with any added dyes as “no artificial colors.” Now, food makers are free to use that claim so long as products are colored from natural sources, such as beets, and are not petroleum based.
