The FDA on Friday committed to pressing Congress for the authority to collect fees from e-cigarette companies, a move the agency said would help hire more staff to keep up with the pace of product applications.
An additional $100 million in user fees would assist the Food and Drug Administration in increasing compliance and enforcement actions against companies disregarding FDA tobacco regulations, the agency said. The effort is part of a series of planned actions by the FDA in response to an independent report that found the agency’s tobacco division lacks a clear strategy to regulate the tobacco industry.
