FDA Shuts Down Bids Asking for CBD Products as Diet Supplements

The FDA denied three petitions asking it to make rules to allow cannabidiol products to be marketed as dietary supplements, instead saying its review concluded that a new regulatory pathway for CBD products is needed.

  • FDA said it’s “prepared to work with congress” on new regulation
  • “Given the available evidence, it is not apparent how CBD products could meet safety standards for dietary supplements or food additives”
