FDA Pressured to Move Faster to Vet Coronavirus Antibody Tests

House lawmakers are pushing the Food and Drug Administration to review quickly the quality of almost 200 antibody tests on the market that are designed to show if someone has already been exposed to Covid-19.

Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-Ill.) said Tuesday he’s worried some of the 192 unreviewed tests are “junk tests” that the FDA is allowing to be sold. He and other Democrats also expressed concern that Americans believe falsely that a positive antibody means they’re immune to the coronavirus and can ignore social distancing and other guidelines meant to stem the spread of the virus.
