FDA Commissioner Marty Makary said the top food and drug regulator would be exempt from mass workforce firings during a government shutdown should there be one in the coming days.
“I want you to know that would not apply to the FDA,” Makary said in a 30-second video viewed by Bloomberg Law that was sent to Food and Drug Administration staff on Sunday afternoon. “I was able to ensure an exemption because we are in the business of public safety.”
