FDA Budget Seeks New User Fees, More Funds for Drug, Device Safety

The Obama administration’s fiscal year 2011 budget proposal released Feb. 1 seeks increased funding for drug and medical device safety initiatives at the Food and Drug Administration, including policy proposals designed to expand postmarket safety surveillance of medical products.

The FY 2011 budget request for FDA is $4.03 billion, a net program level increase of $748 million over the agency’s current $3.28 billion budget, FDA said. This amount would cover all the products FDA regulates, including drugs, devices, and food.
