A False Claims Act lawsuit alleging that drugmaker Pfizer Inc. used deceptive marketing in the promotion of its statin drug Lipitor (atorvastatin) was unsealed Jan. 10 by a federal district court in Massachusetts (United States ex rel. Health Support Awareness, Inc. v. Pfizer, Inc.).
The complaint was filed in August 2013 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts by Health Support Awareness Inc. (HSA). The complaint alleged that Pfizer’s deceptive marketing of Lipitor resulted in false claims submissions to Medicare, Medicaid and other federal health-care programs.
