Family Health Insurance Premiums Have Spiked 7%, Survey Says (1)

Premiums for employer-sponsored health insurance for family coverage rose 7% to nearly $24,000 in 2023 following nearly no growth in 2022, according to new data from the health policy research organization KFF.

Employees now contribute $6,575 a year on average toward the cost of the premiums, up nearly $500 from 2022, with employers paying the rest, KFF said in an annual survey released early Wednesday. Future increases may be coming, as 23% of the employers said they will increase employee contributions in the next two years.
