Houman Hemmati, a board-certified ophthalmologist, biotech executive and frequent Fox News guest, is a candidate to become the US’ top vaccine and gene therapy regulator, according to senior administration officials.

Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Marty Makary has begun conducting interviews, and there are several other candidates also under consideration, the officials said on the condition of anonymity to discuss personnel issues.

“No decision has been made on the selection” of the next director of the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, HHS spokesperson Andrew Nixon said in a written statement. “We continue to vet highly qualified candidates.” ...
