Environmental Group Challenges FDA’s Oversight of PFAS in Foods

An environmental justice group in Arizona is challenging the FDA’s delayed action on a citizen petition asking the agency to set tolerances for PFAS in foods such as fruits, vegetables, and eggs.

The complaint, filed Jan. 24 by the Tucson Environmental Justice Task Force and other plaintiffs, alleges the Food and Drug Administration’s slow moves to act on a petition harms them because “adulterated foods remain in the market putting public health as well as global trade at risk.”
