States grappling with America’s opioid crisis have a new road map from the Biden administration to direct users toward public health services and away from the criminal justice system.
The Law Enforcement and Other First Responder Deflection Act, a model law announced Thursday by the White House’s Office of National Drug Control Policy, provides state law enforcement with legislative suggestions on how to steer those with substance use and mental health disorders toward treatment and reduce obstacles to access.
