DOL Expands Reductions to Health Plan Reporting Penalties

The Department of Labor is expanding relief offered to multiple employer welfare arrangements that don’t file required notices on time, according to a notice published Tuesday.

The Employee Benefits Security Administration is increasing penalty reductions under the Delinquent Filer Voluntary Compliance Program for MEWAs and entities claiming exception that file Form M-1 notices late, effective Wednesday.

MEWAs and ECEs will be eligible for a $750 penalty reduction currently offered to small plans that are late in filing their Form 5500s, the agency said. The reduction will also be available to apprenticeship, training plans, and top hat plans.
