The Justice Department obtained more than $5.6 billion in settlements and judgments from False Claims Act cases in 2021, which is the second largest amount in FCA history, and the largest recovery since 2014.
The DOJ has now recovered more than $70 billion under the FCA since Congress’ 1986 amendments to the act, the DOJ said in a Tuesday announcement.
The $5.6 billion amount more than doubles the recovery from 2020, which was $2.2 billion.
Of the $5.6 billion amount, over $5 billion relates to matters that involved the healthcare industry, the DOJ said.
