DOJ, Laboratory Agree to $63.5M Kickback Settlement (2)

Pathology laboratory company Inform Diagnostics agreed to pay $63.5 million to settle False Claims Act suits alleging that it engaged in improper relationships with physicians, the Justice Department announced.

Inform Diagnostics formerly was a subsidiary of Japanese company Miraca Holdings Inc. The Irving, Texas-based company allegedly donated electronic health record technologies and technology consulting services to doctors based on their referral of lab tests or other business, according to the settlement agreement.

The referrals led to Medicare, Medicaid, and TRICARE claims between 2008 and 2016, and the company allegedly violated the Anti-Kickback Statute and Stark Law, the federal government ...
