Doctors Challenge Increased Fees for Medical Bills Arbitration

A group of doctors and a hospital asked federal district court Monday for injunctive relief against federal agencies’ decision to impose a sharp increase in fees for those seeing arbitration in medical billing disputes.

The action in U.S. District for the Eastern District of Texas is part of litigation challenging the government’s No Surprises Act regulations. The complaint says the Departments of Health and Human Services, Labor, and Treasury, as well as the Office of Personnel Management, haven’t established “a fair and workable” process for payments disputes “that allows out-of-network physicians to obtain reasonable compensation for their services.”
