Disability Rights Attorney Tapped for HHS General Counsel Post (1)

President Joe Biden has chosen Samuel Bagenstos to be his general counsel for the Health and Human Services Department.

If confirmed, he’ll help the agency put out airtight policies and defend it against challenges.

Bagenstos has been serving as general counsel at the Office of Management and Budget since early 2021. Prior to that, he was a law professor at the University of Michigan and principal deputy assistant attorney general for civil rights at the Justice Department. Bagenstos wrote a leading casebook on disability rights law and has argued four cases in front of the Supreme Court.
