Disability Groups Fail in California Aid-in-Dying Law Challenge

Disability rights advocates can’t proceed with a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of a California law that allows doctors to lawfully prescribe fatal medications for terminally ill patients, a federal court said.

The United Spinal Association, Not Dead Yet, the Institute for Patients’ Rights, and Communities Actively Living Independent and Free didn’t state valid causes of action alleging that the End of Life Option Act violates federal disability law or the 14th Amendment’s equal protection and due process clauses, the US District Court for the Central District of California said Wednesday.
