A Denver contractor has agreed to pay $125,000 to settle allegations that it conducted uncertified renovations at six multi-unit rental housing properties with lead-based paint, the Environmental Protection Agency announced Tuesday.
The EPA said that VareCo, a Denver-area property owner, failed to obtain EPA certification prior to performing the renovations, did not assign a certified renovator to each project, failed to retain documentation to demonstrate compliance with lead-safe work practices, and did not obtain written acknowledgement from residents of receipt of the required lead hazards pamphlet prior to renovations.
