Democrats Aim to Protect Abortion Seekers Crossing State Lines

A House panel adopted a measure Tuesday to block Justice Department funds from being used to prosecute women who cross state lines to obtain an abortion, as Democrats aim to counter the effects of the US Supreme Court striking down Roe v. Wade.

The House Appropriations Committee voted 32-23 to adopt an amendment by Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) to bar the use of Justice Department funds to investigate or prosecute anyone who crosses state lines to have an abortion or anyone who provides assistance to someone else.
