DEA Seeks to Cut Down on Excess Opioids With Prescription Rule

US pharmacists and physicians are getting new prescribing guidance for schedule II drugs under a DEA rule unveiled Thursday in an effort to curb the amount of spare addictive drugs lying around homes and increasing opioid addiction rates.

The new Drug Enforcement Administration final rule (RIN: 1117-AB45) lines up its regulations with the the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act of 2016 and fills what the agency calls “gaps not addressed by the legislation.”
