Private health insurers like Aetna are reaping the benefits of data-based anti-fraud solutions and are participating in a public-private program that encourages insurers to share claims data with the government.
The program to fight fraud could expand, following a House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health markup Sept. 7 that approved a bill to write the Healthcare Fraud Prevention Partnershipinto law. The HFPP is a voluntary public-private partnership created in 2012 that operates at the discretion of the administration, meaning a president could terminate the program at any time.
