Methodist Hospitals of Dallas will have to face a lawsuit alleging that improper diagnostic testing policies caused a patient to die the same day he was discharged to another hospital, a state court of appeals said.
Patient Hubert Yates’ widow Cynthia Yates alleges that Methodist, which does business as Methodist Mansfield Medical Center, has testing policies that failed to reveal the patient’s necrotizing pancreatitis, leading to insufficient treatment, the Texas Court of Appeals, Fifth District, said Monday. Proper procedures would have prevented the patient’s transfer to another facility and eventual death, the lawsuit claims.
