Covidien Hernia Mesh Lawsuits Sent to US Court in Massachusetts

Hernia mesh litigation against Covidien LLP and affiliated companies will proceed in a federal court in Massachusetts, the US Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation said, backing the company’s second request to combine the suits.

Plaintiffs link the products to pain, infection, and other complications. They allege that the mesh, used to facilitate healing after surgical hernia repair, causes complications such as scar tissue and infection. The risk warnings were inadequate, the plaintiffs say.

Combining the suits will make the litigation more efficient and prevent inconsistent rulings, the panel said Monday.
