California officials secured a win Thursday in a lawsuit over a now-repealed provision on the spread of false information about Covid-19, with a federal appeals court ruling the case should be dismissed as moot.
A panel of the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit said there is no indication California plans to reenact a 2022 law (AB 2098), which gave the state medical board the authority to punish doctors for sharing Covid-related dis- or misinformation. In 2023, the California legislature passed a bill (SB 815) that, in part, repealed the law.
