March 22, 2010, 4:00 AM UTC

The National Association of Community Health Centers has prepared an issue brief to provide health centers with an overview of the changes to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) that were included in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

The brief addresses changes in provisions on enforcement, business associates, accounting of disclosures, requests for records, and the “minimum necessary standard” for disclosing personal health information.

The brief lists the most important facts to know about each change, gives detailed explanations of the change, and, where possible, gives suggestions for compliance.
