Colorado River States Agree on Water Use Cuts Amid Drought (1)

The seven Colorado River Basin states have agreed to water use cuts amid a historic drought after months of disagreement and negotiation, the Bureau of Reclamation announced Monday, possibly avoiding the imposition of federally applied cuts.

The proposal by California, Arizona, and Nevada, and agreed to by all seven states, calls for cutting at least 3 million acre-feet of water use from the Colorado River—roughly the equivalent of more than 1.2 million Olympic swimming pools—through the end of 2026 when current drought contingency guidelines expire.
