The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has no plans to extend the Oct. 1 ICD-10 (International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision) implementation deadline, the agency’s top official said Feb. 27 at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) annual conference in Orlando, Fla.
“We’ve delayed this several times already. It’s time to move on,” CMS Administrator Marilyn Tavenner said of the switch to the ICD-10 code set, which will greatly expand the number of diagnosis and treatment codes used for billing and claims purposes.
