The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Nov. 7 said it is looking for public input on improving its “coverage with evidence” (CED) policy, in which there is some evidence of medical benefit, but more information is needed before a coverage decision can be made.
“While CED has produced some gains in innovation, our experience over the last few years indicates we still have room to improve the CED process,” CMS said.
The CED process allows for coverage of items and services while gathering data to support the “reasonable and necessary” determination required under Medicare.
