CMS Says Medicaid Money Isn’t for Gender Reassignment in Minors

April 11, 2025, 7:04 PM UTC

Centers for Medicaid & Medicaid Services Administrator Mehmet Oz says Medicaid dollars are not to be used for gender reassignment surgeries or hormone treatments in minors.

  • “Psychotherapy, not life-altering drugs, should be the first line of treatment,” Oz says
  • CMS sent a letter to state Medicaid agencies urging them not to offer payments to fund such treatment for minors
