CMS Proposed Rule Changes DME Rules For Direct Solicitation, Supplier Contracts

The circumstances under which suppliers of durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics, and supplies (DMEPOS) could directly contact Medicare beneficiaries would be clarified and broadened under a proposed rule released by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services April 1.

The rule is set to be published in the April 4 Federal Register.

The definition of “direct solicitation” would be narrowed under the proposed rule, because CMS said the previous definition was “unfeasible” and overly broad.
