Cigna Automated Claims Denial Lawsuit Gets Court’s Go-Ahead

A lawsuit that claims health insurer Cigna illegally used advanced technology to deny patients’ claims will be allowed to proceed, a federal judge in California ruled this week.

But the March 30 order by Judge Dale Drozd of the US District Court for the Eastern District of California granted—with leave to amend—Cigna’s motion to dismiss claims that it improperly denied benefits to six named plaintiffs. The order said “all plaintiffs have failed to sufficiently allege facts stating a claim” for denial of benefits.
