Cigarette Graphic Warning Rule Delayed After 10th Court Order

An FDA rule requiring cigarette manufacturers to display graphic health warnings is delayed yet again to November 2023, following a recent court order.

The rule will implement a provision of the 2009 Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act, which mandates the FDA to require that cigarette packages and advertisements contain warning labels and graphics depicting the negative health consequences of smoking.

The FDA filed a notice in the Federal Register dated Thursday to move the effective date to Nov. 6, 2023. It was initially set to take effect in June 2021 but has been tied up in litigation. ...
