Chicago’s St. Anthony Hospital sued Illinois’ Medicaid agency in federal court, alleging the agency’s failure to make sure its private contractors timely process and pay Medicaid claims violates federal law.
The coronavirus pandemic has brought the state’s preexisting Medicaid “payment crisis” to a head, the hospital says in a complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois on Monday.
The crisis is now threatening the “safety net” hospital’s ability to care for Medicaid-eligible people who have Covid-19, the disease caused by the virus, it says.
