The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention plans to launch a program to provide free Covid-19 vaccinations to adults who are uninsured or underinsured, according to a Thursday news release.

The Bridge Access Program for Covid-19 Vaccines will begin in the fall, the Department of Health and Human Services said.

The CDC will purchase the vaccines and allocate them with additional funding to its state and local immunization program network to reach community-based providers, as well as select national pharmacy chains, the HHS said.

The HHS said the program is expected to end in December 2024.
