The Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT) will develop and publish a guide identifying the information technologies a health care organization needs to function effectively as an accountable care organization (ACO), CCHIT leaders told BNA Dec. 13.
“Any organization that wants to be an ACO will need a robust health technology infrastructure to coordinate care,” William Jessee, chair of CCHIT’s board of trustees, said.
A successful ACO requires the use of electronic health records, health information exchanges, patient scheduling system, and other technologies to lower the cost of patient care, Jessee said.
