California Therapists, Kaiser Agree to End Strike Over Staffing

Kaiser Permanente therapists reached a tentative deal with their employer to end a 10-week strike over the provider’s lack of staff to meet an overwhelming demand for mental health services.

The National Union of Healthcare Workers and Kaiser, the nation’s largest nonprofit HMO, finalized negotiations on the four-year contract Tuesday, ahead of a two-day ratification vote.

Details of the agreement will be made public once the document has been ratified, according to union spokesman Matthew Artz. “There are definitely going to be gains for patients as well as therapists,” he said.
