California Clears Way for Sale of Verity Hospitals, With Strings

Bankrupt Verity Health System of California could sell several facilities in Northern and Southern California conditioned on the hospitals staying open for at least five years and performing specific amounts of charity care, the state’s attorney general said.

KPC Group’s Strategic Global Management Inc. wants to buy the facilities. The conditional approval, required under California law, comes after Attorney General Xavier Becerra (D) tried unsuccessfully to block the sale of two Verity hospitals to Santa Clara County to ensure charity care provisions were met.
