Builders Must Ask Army Corps for Second Wetlands Look Under Rule

The EPA’s new wetlands rule will let developers build homes and other projects without a federal permit in some places, but builders with permits in hand will have to adhere to that permit even if the projects affect wetlands that are no longer federally protected, an Army Corps of Engineers official said.

Builders that haven’t begun moving dirt can ask the Army Corps, which issues federal dredge-and-fill permits, to take another look at wetlands on a construction site that may no longer be federally protected.
