Brain-Injury Center Holds On to $2M Award Against Nursing Home

A health-care provider that operated a brain-injury clinic within a Milwaukee nursing home may collect $2 million in payments it was promised, but never received.

Milwaukee Health Center, a skilled nursing facility, breached its contract by using money it owed the Milwaukee Center for Independence to pay its own employees and creditors, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit said July 8.

William Nicholson, MHC’s chief executive officer, was jointly liable for the damages, the court said.

MHC operated Wellspring of Milwaukee. It contracted with MCFI to operate a brain-injury center within the facility.
