Boat Captain Can’t Shake $14 Million Shipwreck Pollution Lawsuit

The estate of a tugboat master must face the US government’s lawsuit looking to recoup the oil pollution cleanup costs for a Marin County, Calif., shipwreck, after a federal judge ruled the captain could be considered a responsible party in the accident.

The US District Court for the Western District of Washington ruled Tuesday that Christian Lint qualified as an “operator” under the Oil Pollution Act, denying the estate’s motion for summary judgment.
